I volunteer my time to translating Twitter into Indonesian, because I want to ensure that the Indonesian version of Twitter is of excellent quality. Unfortunately, websites often do a poor job of localizing for Indonesia. Often, the quality of a website is so poor that its users just end up using the English version. I didn't want this happen to Twitter, so I started translating through the Twitter Translation Center.
Taking part in Twitter's volunteer translator program surely has been one of the best experiences I’ve ever come across with. What I’ve liked most about it has been getting to know amazing people from all around the world. I’ve met some of the top Indonesian translators, amazing Indonesian co-moderators, and incredible colleagues from all around the world. In particular, I’ve enjoyed developing a relationship with my soccer arch-rivals, @psn and @monica. Watching La Liga and the Champions League without them just isn’t as fun.
When not translating, I can be found studying International Hospitality Management in a university in Auckland, New Zealand, or reading or playing video games. Through translating Twitter, though, I realized just how much I actually like translating. Aside from Twitter, I also translate books, articles, blogs, and websites. To quote a comic strip on translation, which I like, “I cannot help but be awed in ecstasy on those rare occasions I find the perfect translation out of a million possibilities. It’s like a perfect trick of fate.”
